MenuDirections 2012: Look for Updates on Awards and Trends

This weekend kicks off FoodService Director's 2012 MenuDirections conference in Charleston, S.C. FSD editors will be tweeting and posting updates from the conference all weekend, continuing through the conference's end on Tuesday afternoon. Some items to look out for:

Sunday: Updates, photos and tweets from the Marketing Health series of workshops, as well as the evening's Dine-around.

Monday: Updates, photos and tweets from James Painter's keynote address, 10 Foods for a Healthier Lifestyle, the World Cuisines and New Product Trends workshop series and the announcement of the 2011 FSD of the Year.

Tuesday: Updates, photos and tweets from the Cooking Healthy series of workshops and the announcement of the 2012 Goldies award winners.

My favorite event—because I’m kind of dorky—is our “May the fourth be with you” (aka “Star Wars”) day on May 4. The whole dining team dresses up, and we offer things like Chewbaklava, Boba Fettuccine and BB-8 Buckeyes. We had a guest cry because they got to take a picture with Chewy.

Following an initial test at the end of May, Starbucks announced that more than 500 of its stores will be pouring nitro coffee by the end of summer.
