In October, Memorial Hermann Health System unveiled its first Community Resource Center. Food and nutrition-related elements of the center include teaming up with the Houston Food Bank to help provide access to fresh, healthy food for those identified as food insecure, as well as partnering with Meals on Wheels for a pilot program to identify patients who are unable to cook or shop on their own after being discharged. For these people, the program offered several weeks’ worth of meals tailored to meet their specific dietary needs—delivered directly to patients’ homes at no cost to them.
