Is there a magic food word for getting retweets? Maybe. A new study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research Public Health and Surveillance examined 80 million geolocated tweets about food, physical activity and happiness. An in-progress map of their results, county by county, is available here.
Their takeaways: Users from urban locations were more likely to tweet about fast food, but, surprisingly, the presence of parks and fitness centers were only modestly associated with a higher frequency of tweets about physical activity. Maybe people just get more excited about french fry tweets?
While researchers used their findings to study health in different neighborhoods across the U.S., the data leads FoodService Director to another conclusion: If operators tweet about the things their diners also enjoy tweeting about, retweets may be in the forecast.
