Maine has set up a new Farm-to-School Institute aimed at educating students about agriculture and increasing locally sourced food at the state's rural middle and high schools, Bangor Daily News reports.

The new institute has been funded through a $225,000 Service Learning Grant awarded by the USDA and will help promote farm-to-school initiatives through food education, school gardens and more. Participating schools will also be able to attend a 3-day workshop next summer.

Currently, Maine schools must travel to nearby Vermont to receive farm-to-school support programming.
