The University of Pittsburgh is bringing Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology to another one of its locations on campus.

The new tech is available at one of the retail stores inside The Petersen Events Center, the school’s basketball arena and concert venue.

Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology utilizes AI and cameras to allow guests to enter the store using their credit card and then simply grab their items and leave without ever having to physically check out.

“The University of Pittsburgh is fortunate to have a robust collaboration in place with Amazon,” said Heather Lyke, athletic director of the University of Pittsburgh, in a statement. “The addition of Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology to our fan experience at the Petersen Events Center is yet another way that the two parties continue to work together to drive innovation in collegiate athletics. We are excited for our fans to enjoy this cutting-edge technology through our new ‘Pitt on the Go’ location!”

The university also uses Just Walk Out technology at another one its campus c-stores.

Chartwells Higher Education, Pitt’s foodservice provider, has worked to implement cashierless checkout in many of its operations over the past couple of years. It currently has plans to launch at least 100 additional cashierless retail concepts at schools across the country.
