How Farmington Municipal Schools and K-12 by Elior diverted 100,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill

Farmington Municipal Schools was awarded Elior North America’s Doing Good award for its work in diverting food waste from the landfill.

Locally Sourced: The GCS nutrition team partnered with a nearby Southern Baking to source hoagie rolls for the sandwich.

Also in this week’s K-12 legislative update: States continue to take steps toward implementing universal free school meals for all.

The foodservice provider has partnered with the National Dairy Council to launch the concept at over 55 schools this month.

According to the study, only 44% of parents perceived school lunches to be healthy, however, a majority said that school meals can save them money, time and stress.

The recipient schools will use the money to purchase walk-in coolers and other equipment to improve their farm-to-school programs.
