USDA teams up with New Mexico hospitals to provide children with free meals

In an effort to combat child food insecurity, the U.S. Department of Education has teamed up with three New Mexico hospitals to provide free meals to children, reports dchieftain.com.

Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis and Socorro General Hospital in Socorro are the first hospitals in New Mexico to offer the free meals.

“The reason for our visit was to help teach children to eat healthy and enjoy fun and games together,” Cindy Rivera, director of Socorro’s youth center, told the website. “The people at Socorro General talked to the children and explained to them how it is important to take care of your bodies and enjoy fun and games at the same time.”
