The Urban School Food Alliance (USFA) welcomed three new members this week.
Portland Public Schools in Oregon, Seattle Public Schools in Washington and Austin Independent School District in Texas have joined the nonprofit, which aims to help districts by sharing best practices, advocating for policy aimed at improving student meal access, and utilizing its collective purchasing power to provide high-quality student meals while keeping costs down.
With the recent additions, the Urban School Food Alliance now represents 15 school districts throughout the country, including Boston Public Schools, Chicago Public Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools.
“Our new members represent some of the finest and most influential school foodservice programs in the country, and we look forward to their contributions to USFA’s ongoing success,” Michael Rosenberger, chairman of USFA and executive director of food and child nutrition services for Dallas Independent School District, said in a statement. “They expand our geographical footprint into the Pacific Northwest and strengthen our membership in Texas. These three districts will increase our organizational effectiveness in our core USFA competencies of best practice sharing, advocacy and procurement.”
