Students at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., will soon use eye scanners to enter the school’s dining halls, The Red and Black reports.
Starting in the fall, biometric eye scanners will be installed in all dining halls on campus. The system is said to be faster and more sanitary than card swipes and hand scans, as students will only need to look at the scanner to be granted access.
The university said it has already begun adding students into the system, enrolling around 900 students during the first week. The system’s cameras and required software cost the school around $70,000, according to officials.
