The foodservice program at the University of Florida has rebranded as Florida Fresh Dining as it looks to annually ramp up its investment in local businesses.
The team, which is newly managed by Chartwells Higher Ed, says it will prioritize buying products from the Alachua County, where the university is located, as well as from within Florida and within 250 miles of Gainesville. Its “Taste of Gainesville” concept in the school’s Reitz Union will also showcase local restaurants, with two partner eateries being featured daily.
“We believe that creating a stronger bridge between the University of Florida and the local community will foster an enhanced relationship between students and business owners,” Eddie Daniels, assistant vice president of business services, said in a statement. “With the flexibility of Chartwells’ dining services, we’re able to spotlight local flavors and businesses to expand the Gator community.”
Chartwells began managing the University of Florida’s dining program last month. It was previously run by Aramark.
