University of Dayton to invest $7M to upgrade dining options

In an effort to meet the demand of its Chinese student population, the University of Dayton is creating a micro-restaurant that will serve authentic Asian food with a menu developed by the university’s dining services.

The micro-restaurant will be part of the Dayton, Ohio, university’s $7 million effort to revamp the dining options inside its Kennedy Union student center, according to a release. The plans include creating three other micro-restaurants, as well as a cafe-bakery.

“For a long time, we’ve heard from our customers about ways we could make the dining experience better for them,” Paula Chambers, assistant vice president for auxiliary services at UD, said in a statement. “In designing the renovation, we kept in mind the many different ways our campus community uses the dining areas as well as the broad range of foods they’d like to be available.”

A final vote on the project will come during the board of trustees’ executive committee meeting this month, according to a release. Construction is expected to start in November, and the dining areas will reopen in August 2017.
