To self-serve or not to self-serve?

A change in the dining hall of Washington College from self-service to assisted-service has been met with mixed reviews, reports The Elm.

Director of dining services Don Stanwick told The Elm the foremost reason for the change was to keep students healthy.

“One of the most common illnesses that goes around college campuses is norovirus, a disease that is communicated by touch and is difficult to clean. General heating doesn’t completely get rid of the bacteria, so the items have to be bleached, which then runs the risk of bleach being around the food,” Stanwick said.

Still, some students have voiced a preference for resorting to the serve-your-self model.
