Coloma Community School District in Coloma, Mich., is providing free Thanksgiving meals to families in the district, WSBT 22 reports

Each family will receive a 9-pound turkey breast, five pounds of potatoes, a couple pounds of frozen vegetables, a package of rolls and a pie.

While the meals are free, families need to sign up in advance. Almost 300 families have already signed up so far, according to the district.

The meals were purchased using extra funds in the budget. School officials hope to also provide a holiday meal to families in December.

Similarly, Scarborough School District in Scarborough, Maine, will be handing out free curbside Thanksgiving meals for families later this month.
