Willmar School District in Willmar, Minn., is considering revoking parking, sports and prom privileges to middle and high school students who have accumulated meal debt, the Star Tribune reports.
The new policy is being weighed as a way to reduce the district’s meal deficit of around $13,000. Students who receive free or reduced-price lunches would be omitted from the policy.
“It’s a very small number of people this would ever apply to,” Superintendent Jeff Holm told the Star Tribune. “We feel we give them lots of paths to avoid those consequences. If they would make some kind of good-faith effort to pay something, we would never impose any additional consequences.”
The district will consider finalizing the policy at an upcoming board meeting next month.
