Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District in Burnsville, Minn., may begin to limit milk as it deals with supply chain shortages of paper cartons, SWNewsMedia reports.
The district said that milk could be discontinued at one or all of its daily meals served if needed.
School districts throughout the country have been struggling with supply chain issues as the pandemic drags on. Earlier this school year, one district announced it would stop serving universal free meals to students as a result of the weakening supply chain, and in September, Dallas Independent School District switched to finger foods for some of its meals because of flatware procurement challenges.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has sought to help operators combat these shortages and related cost increases by providing over $1 billion in federal funding to schools and raising the meal reimbursement rate.
