NYC councilman introduces bill to establish letter grading system for school cafeterias

Parents and guardians would be able to view the grades online and would be informed if their child’s cafeteria was issued a “C” grade or below.

A New York City councilman has introduced a bill that would require the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to issue letter grades to school cafeterias following sanitary inspections.

The Department of Education would be required to post the letter grades near the front entrances of schools and cafeterias.

Parents and guardians would be able to view the grades on school websites and would be notified if their child’s cafeteria was given a “C” grade or below.
