Kansas’ hospitals aim to serve better food

A group of Kansas-based hospitals are working to change the perception of hospital food, according to KMUW.org.

Seventy-seven of Kansas’s 126 hospitals have pledged to review their food and beverage policies as part of the Healthy Kansas Initiative, which aims to serve better, healthier foods to patients, staff and visitors.

Harold Courtois, an administrator at Russell Regional Hospital, told KMUW that he’s excited about the pledge and as a healthcare facility “we should be following what we tell people to do.”

“You would find all kinds of cakes and pies, and things that are really a lot higher in calories, so we’re trying to provide a better option—maybe not the perfect option," Courtois said.
