President-elect Joe Biden has released details of his COVID-19 relief plan, which includes $170 billion in funding for schools and colleges.
The funding is part of his $1.9 trillion coronavirus rescue package, aimed at providing relief to American families and institutions while the vaccine rollout continues. In an address to the nation last night, Biden also shared his goal to get a majority of K-8 students back to in-person class safely during his first 100 days in office.
In addition, the president-elect's proposal includes plans to extend emergency nutrition assistance for families enrolled in the SNAP program through the rest of this year.
As the New York Times notes, Biden’s relief plan could face immediate obstacles, such as securing enough votes in Congress.
