A food-truck operator in Houston says he lost a big contract with Houston ISD due to the name of his vehicle and the food he sells, reports The Houston Chronicle.
Garrett Blinn’s Buttz Food Truck serves chicken and pork. Although a staff member at one of HISD’s schools contracted him to vend at a local event, he was later told through Facebook that the name of his truck and the food he serves would offend some people.
Blinn told The Chronicle that the name of his truck isn’t meant to be offensive at all.
“The name refers to the cut of pork I use known as a pork butt or Boston butt. It’s actually a pork shoulder. I added the “z” to stand out in the market,” Blinn said.
In a recent statement HISD officials said, “Herod Elementary School administrators declined to use Buttz Food Truck because they didn’t feel the name of the business was appropriate for young children.”
