Facebook cafeteria staff push for higher wages, better benefits

Over 500 cafeteria employees at Facebook’s headquarters have unionized in an effort to secure higher wages and better health benefits, The Mercury News reports.

While a spokesperson for the tech giant noted that such negotiations are under the purview of Flagship Facility Services rather than Facebook itself, they said the company is committed to giving workers, including contractors, a “safe, fair work environment.”

The local chapter of Unite Here, a labor union that represents foodservice workers, said it hopes to start negotiating a contract next month.
