DoorDash debuts discounted version of DashPass aimed at college diners

DashPass for Students is half the cost of the company’s traditional monthly membership.

Third-party deliverer DoorDash has announced a discounted version of its monthly membership program aimed at college consumers.

At $4.99 a month, DashPass for Students costs just half of a traditional DashPass and is available to students enrolled in an undergrad or graduate program at accredited U.S. schools.

The pass includes such perks as $0 delivery fees on certain orders and exclusive food offerings.

"Access to convenient, fast, and affordable ways to get everything you need is key for busy students on the go," Kofi Amoo-Gottfried, chief marketing officer for DoorDash, said in a statement. "With the launch of DashPass for Students, we're excited to change the game for students with a plan that's designed specifically for them and provides access to everything from late night study snacks and grocery items to school supplies and dorm essentials."

In addition to the monthly version, students can opt for an annual DashPass membership for $48.

As pandemic concerns recede across many parts of the country, delivery remains highly important to college diners. In fact, nearly half of college students say they wish delivery was an option at more on-campus eateries, according to a recent Technomic report,
