District teams up with local chef for new healthy-food initiative

Jackson Public Schools has teamed up with local chef Nick Wallace to launch Creativity Kitchen: Chef Inspired Cuisine for Healthy Scholars.

The program, which launched Jan. 25, seeks to help students eat well and prepare healthy meals by educating them on nutrition, cuisine, farming and art.

“We believe our scholars will make healthy dietary decisions as they learn how food is produced in Mississippi and how schools get these products from local farmers,” Superintendent Cedrick Gray said in a statement. “The ultimate goal is to expose our scholars to a larger variety of healthy and delicious food choices so that they become more informed consumers and educators of nutrition in their communities.”
