District digs into local lunches

Columbus City School District in Columbus, Ohio, has started a locally sourced lunch program in an effort to expose students to more local foods and give them nutritious choices, ABC reports.

The program—dubbed Ohio Days: My Plate, My State—offers students lunches made from locally sourced ingredients once a month.

The district has singled out 20 companies that could fulfill its need for local ingredients, though some items still have to be sourced outside the state. In the future, officials hope to locally source all of the ingredients for the monthly lunches.
