U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar has introduced a bill that would set up a nationwide advisory council on unpaid meal debt.

The 14-member National Advisory Council on Unpaid Meal Debt Act would aim to tackle meal debt, prevent stigmatization and maintain meal program viability.

The council would be made up of state foodservice directors, experts, parents and cafeteria employees appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.

The bill builds on the No Shame at School Act that was reintroduced by Omar and Sen. Tina Smith earlier this month.
