National School Lunch Hero Day takes place on Friday, and many school districts have already begun celebrating. Here’s how some are honoring their school foodservice heroes this year.

1. Spirit days

School Lunch Hero Day has turned into a week-long celebration for nutrition staff at Wake County Public School System in Cary, N.C. Each day this week, nutrition staff are dressing up with a different theme, such as crazy hat day.

2. A virtual thank you

This week, North Penn School District in Lansdale, Pa., is asking parents, students, staff and faculty to sign an e-card for the school nutrition team, which will be delivered on Friday.

3. Social media shoutouts

Charleston County Public Schools in Charleston, S.C., has spent the past couple of days giving specific members of its foodservice team a shoutout on its social media channels.

4. Growing gifts

Members of the nutrition team at Dawes Middle School in Lincoln, Neb., each received an herb plant as a gift from the principal, assistant principal and coordinator.
