Students at Sentinel High School in Missoula, Mont., sampled marinara made with ingredients sourced from local farmers during a recent lunch period, the Missoulian reports.
Named Montana Marinara, the sauce was created through a partnership between the state’s Office of Public Instruction and the Northwest Food Hub Network. It uses produce such as squash, carrots and onions that are sourced from the state.
The sauce was made to be affordable and accessible to every Montana school district that participates in the National School Lunch Program.
