How college students delineate their diets

Just under a quarter (24%) of sophomores and upperclassmen say they are eating more meatless foods on campus now than they did a year ago, according to Technomic’s 2019 College & University Consumer Trend Report. Still, three-fourths of students say they consume fish, meat and dairy. Here are the top dietary preferences of today’s college students.

Vegan:
2% say they eat no animal products

Pescatarian:
3% say they eat fish or seafood, but no meat

Vegetarian:
4% say they eat no fish or meat

Flexitarian:
7% say they typically eat vegetarian, but allow meat or fish on occasion

Semi-vegetarian:
8% say they only eat certain types of meat

Omnivore:
75% say they allow meat, fish and dairy
