Loudoun County Public Schools prioritized the areas that can be especially problematic at the K-12 level, which include the use of artificial dyes, colorings and sweeteners. They started digging into labels—and getting frank with food sellers. “Cheese doesn’t need dye—we swapped it out,” Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator Stefanie Dove says. “We’re open and honest with our vendors. We tell them please don’t waste your time sending samples that have artificial dyes or sweeteners.”
