Belmont University brings local restaurant pop-ups to campus

The pop-ups are part of a new initiative launched by the the school’s foodservice provider, Sodexo.

The program will award $500,000 and $600,000 in grants to eight projects that seek to transform their local supply chain to bring local scratch-made meals to schools.

The district will be experimenting with meals made from scratch early next year as part of a pilot program.

Five organizations will collectively receive $1.1 million in grant money to research barriers to federal child nutrition program participation and identify ways to increase access.

Under SB 720, public and private schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast and serve students free breakfast and lunch each day would be eligible to receive additional funding from the state. 

The foodservice provider works with over 10 local farms who dedicate a portion of their land to grow crops just for Chartwells K12 schools in New England.
