University students petition for sustainable-food-themed dining hall

Students at Stanford University are petitioning for a sustainable-food-themed dining hall, reports The Stanford Daily.

The petition—signed by 150 students—comes as the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) considers transforming an existing dining hall into something else.

The proposed dining hall would primarily serve vegetarian food with one meat entree per meal in halal and kosher form. According to ASSU Senator Matthew Cohen ’18, co-author of the resolution, 140 of those who signed the petition said they would eat at the dining hall “often.”

“I hope that the University will listen to the clear voice of the students and create this dining hall to accommodate students’ vegetarian and sacred religious dietary practices,” Cohen told The Daily.
