University of New Hampshire getting rid of plastic straws in foodservice

The University of New Hampshire is leaning into the latest sustainability trend: getting rid of plastic straws.

Cafes at the Durham, N.H., campus will phase out plastic straws, replacing them with recyclable lids that can be sipped through, the news site for UNH Hospitality Services reports.

Compostable straws will be available to patrons with disabilities when requested, as well as to those who order frozen drinks at the school’s Dairy Bar.

UNH joins a growing list of colleges that have recently moved to remove plastic straws from their dining departments, including the University of Portland, Dartmouth College and Marquette University.
