University to keep staff working during dining hall revamp

The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., is implementing a three-phase staffing plan to ensure no foodservice workers lose their jobs while a campus dining hall undergoes renovation, The Observer reports.

After participating in one-on-one meetings, some of the 137 dining hall workers will be assigned to work in other departments across campus, such as athletics, while others will be placed in a different dining hall or the school’s Center for Culinary Excellence.

When the university is closed, staff will be encouraged to use their vacation days; however, those who wish to work will likely be assigned to deep-cleaning projects related to campus dining, the school’s student dining director told The Observer.
