University adds cafe to medical school

The University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y., is adding a cafe to its new medical school building, The Buffalo Times Reports.

Due to open in the fall or early next year, the cafe will seat up to around 50 people and serve light breakfast and lunch items. When planning the space, school officials wanted to a place that would offer students and professors heartier fare than grab-and-go; however, they were careful to not have the eatery replace local restaurants, as the new medical building it will be housed in was aimed to encourage engagement with the surrounding community.

"We are encouraging everyone to use the restaurants in the downtown area that will compete well with what's offered at the medical school,” senior associate dean for facilities and faculty affairs, Suzanne G. Laychock, told The Buffalo Times.
