Cleburne Independent School District in Cleburne, Texas, transformed one of its cafeterias into a 1950s-inspired diner for its summer meal program, WFAA reports.
The idea for the diner came from the district’s child nutrition director, who wanted to offer students a place where they could hang out and enjoy a restaurant-style experience. School officials decorated the cafeteria with custom-made murals and added a retro fridge stocked with chocolate milk.
The district is required to offer free summer lunch since over 50% of its students qualify for free or reduced lunches during the school year. Officials say they serve an average of 35 to 50 students daily in the summer.
