Pennsylvania School Boards Association sues state over budget impasse

The Pennsylvania School Boards Association filed a lawsuit Friday against Governor Tom Wolf and the state legislature, claiming it’s both illegal and unconstitutional to withhold state and federal school aid during a budget impasse, reports wesa.fm.

The PSBA is calling for the state to reimburse a loss of at least $1 billion, which school districts borrowed to cover costs during the six-month impasse.

Although Governor Wolf authorized nearly $7 billion in funding for schools last week, dating back to July 1, PBSA Executive Director Nathan Mains said there are still issues in regards to how the funds will be released.

“We’re looking for more of a concrete, long-term direction,” Mains told the website.
“We don’t want to see those funds stop tomorrow, and certainly my understanding is that it could happen,”
