Penn. health system to boost minimum wage to $15 by 2021

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center will raise its minimum wage for entry-level workers to $15 per hour by 2021.

The wage increase will phase in starting Jan. 1, 2017, and will affect hundreds of employees at its flagship UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee-Womens Hospital and UPMC Mercy, as well as many other facilities, according to a release.

“UPMC employees consistently demonstrate their commitment by providing superior patient care and customer service,” John Galley, UPMC’s SVP and chief human resources officer, said in a statement. “And as part of UPMC’s dedication to our valued employees, we provide career pathways with financial support to help all employees grow and learn so that they can stretch their knowledge and skills and advance their careers.”
