Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom gets $7.5M in funding

Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom has received $7.5 million in new funding, with which the group aims to provide school breakfast to an additional 30,000 students this year.

Made up of various education and nutrition organizations, Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom will use the funds it received from the Walmart Foundation to award grants to school districts in 10 states. Those grants will help offset costs associated with starting a school breakfast program, such as purchasing equipment and staff training.

Almost half of low-income children who are eligible for free or reduced-price breakfast skip the meal, according to a 2015 Food Research & Action Center analysis cited by Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom. The group hopes to offer free breakfast to all students regardless of family household income.
