After receiving recent criticism for its student lunch-debt policy, Ellwood City Area Schools has decided to retain it, reports the Ellwood City Ledger.
Under the policy, foodservice workers at Lincoln Junior-Senior High School in Ellwood City, Pa., are permitted to take and throw away school lunches from students who have accrued more than $6.75 in lunch debt. Elementary students with unpaid fees are given an alternate meal of sunflower-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, fruit, vegetables and milk, according to the Ledger.
The district’s board voted Monday to uphold the policy after some parents called for it to be changed.
