Minn. cafeteria staff vote in favor of strike

Cafeteria employees at St. Paul Public Schools in St. Paul, Minn., have voted to authorize a strike, CBS Minnesota reports.

The employees are members of Teamsters Local 320 and are fighting for a $15 hourly wage.

A negotiation session has been set up for later this month. If an agreement isn’t met, employees say that they could go on strike as soon as next month. School officials say they are hopeful that they’ll reach an agreement, but that they are still prepared to serve meals to students in the event of a strike.

St. Paul Public Schools is not the only institution anticipating a strike in the coming weeks. Last week, unionized dining employees at Northeastern University in Boston also voted in favor of a strike if their demands for higher wages and affordable healthcare are not met.
