Mass. looks to end lunch shaming

Massachusetts is the latest state to debut legislation that would ban lunch shaming, The Boston Herald reports.

Introduced by Sen. Cynthia Stone Creem and Rep. Andres Vargas, the bill would outlaw districts from disciplining students who owe lunch money. Per the bill, districts made up of 40% or more low-income students would also be required to apply for universal free lunch through the National School Lunch Program.

The bill was introduced after a study held during the fall of 2017 found that 154 districts in the state practice some form of lunch shaming.
