La Madeleine chain goes to college

The University of Kentucky has opened the first on-campus branch of the La Madeleine fast-casual bakery-café chain, one of the retail and dining concepts chosen by students for a new 82,000-square-foot student center.

The café features 76 made-from-scratch items with a French bent, according to the chain. Intended signatures include a French Country Breakfast, Croque Monsieur and Tomato Basil Soupe.

The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

It was designed by an alumna of the University, La Madeleine Director of Design Carol Kamenish.

Other facilities in the student center, called The 90, include Aqua Sushi, Taco Bell and a convenience store, Wildcat Pantry.
