Ind. university foodservice staff wins right to unionize

Chartwells employees at Anderson University are now able to unionize, according to the school’s student newspaper, The Andersonian.

Officials say employees wanted to create a union to provide stability for themselves when the university changes foodservice providers. Under the union, employees are also asking for wage increases and more advance notice on their work schedules.

“The union looks forward to developing a respectful process which honors the roles of all involved—workers and management—to build upon Chartwells’ progressive policies and leadership in the dining industry to create a truly progressive, collectively bargained agreement that benefits the workers and management,” Union Organizing Director Scott Barnett told The Andersonian.
