In an effort to provide underserved students with basic necessities, Madison County Schools has rolled out in-school pop-up shops, reports AL.com.
Students can shop anonymously for items such as snacks, school supplies and hygiene products by telling a teacher what they need. Teachers either accompany students to the school’s pop-up shop or bring them the requested items.
Greater Goods Pop-Up Shop debuted at Sparkman Middle School a few weeks ago and recently opened at other schools in the district, including Sparkman High, Moores Mill Intermediate, Hazel Green High and Buckhorn High, officials say.
“We are looking to expand to all high schools in the county by the end of this school year,” Rachel Evans, an instructional coach at Sparkman Middle School, told AL.com. “Then, we’d like to ensure all middle schools have a Greater Goods shop next year.”
