The main cafeteria at Carmel High School in Carmel, Ind., has undergone a major renovation, including updates to old equipment and giving students access to a greater variety of food options, Current in Carmel reports.
The new space was designed to give the cafeteria a more open feel and a layout akin to a college dining hall.
“There is a bigger variety of food choices for the kids,” said Jennifer McFarland, director of food and nutrition services. “We were able to add a salad bar, deli bar, fresh pizza and an international bar to add more variety and make this space easier and more accessible to kids, and update the equipment that was failing.”
The new and improved cafeteria also features two new cash registers, serving lines, refrigeration units, beverage and milk coolers, pizza ovens and more. The renovation cost $900,000 in total.
