Elementary school invites local fishermen to speak to students
Students at Driftwood Elementary School in Port Orford, Ore., were able to try tuna at lunch and talk to the fishermen who caught them, Bandon Western World reports.
Two local fishermen met with students to tell them about their job. Afterwards, the fishermen joined students for tuna sandwiches in the cafeteria.
The event is part of the school's focus on using more local ingredients in school meals. Driftwood recently received more than $2,000 from the Oregon Department of Education to be used on procurement of local ingredients such as tuna.
