Dora Rivas, whose work in Dallas ISD’s food services department garnered White House attention, is leaving the district.
Rivas is retiring, effective Aug. 31, as executive director of DISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services. She has worked for the district since 2005.
But Rivas is not planning to sit idle. She is going to work for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, which is the U.S. military’s largest retailer, and will oversee the child nutrition programs in Europe and Asia. She will be based at the AAFES headquarters in Dallas.
Rivas, known for her efforts to bring healthier menus to schools, said it was difficult to make the decision to leave DISD.
“It’s been great,” she said. “I just really felt like I had a new family there.”
