Conn. students petition for the right to snack in school

After a recent notice was sent out reinforce Amity Regional High School’s policy of no snacking outside the cafeteria, students are now petitioning, saying the rule is detrimental to their ability to learn, the New Haven Register reports.

The petition has been signed by at least 750 students at the Woodbridge, Conn., high school, who say they don’t always have time to eat breakfast before or at school, and that the policy is unfair, as faculty does not adhere to the rule.

Despite students’ objections, there are good reasons for the policy, according to Principal Anna Mahon, such as reducing the risk of allergic reactions among students and keeping “critters” out of the school.

Mahon told the Register that though she can’t change the policy, she would meet with students to discuss their concerns.
