Cheshire Public Schools is using bar codes on identification cards to move students through lunchtime cafeteria lines more quickly, according to the New Haven Register News.
The new system was implemented to shorten the lines and reduce the number of students who have to enter a nine-digit code to pay for their lunch. CPS students have 25-minute lunch periods, and the district’s goal is to get them through the line in less than 12 minutes, officials told the News.
“We want to make eating lunch easy, we want to make it fun and we want to serve them quickly,” said CPS’ director of food and nutrition services Madeleine Diker.
