Congress has passed a five-day short-term funding bill to avoid a shutdown and keep the government funded until Wednesday of next week.
The bill was sent to President Obama on Friday ahead of a midnight deadline. The Senate agreed on the measure Thursday and House members approved it Friday, according to The Associated Press.
School Nutrition Association officials say the bill does not contain any Child Nutrition Act revisions.
“We have not heard any update on how CNR negotiations are going—we will just have to wait to see if they are able to come to a resolution and, if so, whether they try to add that agreement to an Omnibus next week,” SNA Spokeswoman Diane Pratt-Heavner told FoodService Director.
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said that he isn’t going to “put a deadline” on the negotiations, which possibly means they could continue after the measure expires and another short-term bill would have to clear Congress.
"I want to make sure that these negotiations are done well and done right, and not by some arbitrary deadline," Ryan told the website.
