Chartwells to fund university's $3.5M food court remodel

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Thanks to a new long-term contract with food service provider Chartwells, the food court at Oakland University’s student center will get a multi-million facelift this summer.

The $3.5 million project at the Oakland Center will include adding new vendors and expedited service as well as the expansion of the school’s Chick-fil-A franchise, the fast food chain’s only accessible location in the state.

The Rochester-area school of more than 20,000 students will be paying for the work with a portion of a $5.5 million signing bonus it earned when it re-upped with the company on a 10-year contract last year following a bidding process.
